Hey there,
I wuz reading about the technology bit when it comes to music production. And I have to agree with Jamey on the bit with the technology does'nt really matter until you have a great idea.
It's funny. I've got a small recording studio with very old roland gear in it and a Roland D-50 with a PG 1000 midi sound programmer.
I have 4 drum machine/ sequencers( Tr 606, Tr 909, Boss dr 202 and Tr 55) and a handful of synths hooked up to a small multi track mixer. ( Juno 106, Sh 101, Casio VL tone, Casio SK 1) Then that is hooked up to a Metal Master tape rack for the final stereo mix. It is really very crude.
For effects processing, I run my SH 101 through a BOSS DD5 delay guitar pedal. And it sounds huge!!
Now I have these Two Friends that own a pro studio in Toronto Canada. And when we listen to my Crude Demos, they always ask, " How the hell did you get that Sound!?!?!"
Sometimes they feel that I get better sounds on my crap studio because I do my best with what little I actually have to work with. It's a great curse to be limited because your real creativity comes out when you try to work around that.
I think that's why I can relate to "Flatbeat" and some early Acid House records so much.
I find that my friends at the studio have way too much too work with. Logic Audio Platumn, Akai mpc 3000, Korg Trinity and Triton, Roland jd 800 ect.
