wow, you don't check the site for a week and there's about a hundred messages on topics ranging from father ted to kids names. about a year ago this wouldn't have happened, it seems there's been a big influx in the amount of ppl who post regularly, and the site is all the better for it. who cares if things occasionally(!) go off topic? the contributors page is a cool idea, it's just a shame it took something like a death for us all to remember that there's actually a person behind the posting.

just to mention: father ted - feckin' brilliant. all the episodes are classics but the line that gets me every time is the one where ted turns off the telly and goes "chewing gum for the eyes", and dougal replies "er, no thanks, ted". daft punk - for all the postings about them, one thing i will recommend is to go and see them live, i saw them at rock city about 3 years ago and they were great, they did a fantastic cover of "french kiss". kids names - brian? er...

ok, to the leadmill. me and my mate Dom were first in (naturally) and had no idea what to expect, what kind of night it was etc. main room was playing fatboy slim "mad flava", 2nd room some weird slow funky shit. 20 mins later, the place still only had about 20 ppl there. back in the main room i think it was placebo or something. worried looks. an indication of how the night looked like it was going to go came when, well, picture this: two girls on the dance floor. a guy comes running up and does his best 'john travolta' style knee-slide across the floor. right into one of the girls, who proceeds to go arse over tit and cracks her head on the floor. we decide it's time to go back into the 2nd room. some weird slow funky shit is still playing, and a few people are actually moving to it. and then... da daaaa!!! daz and andy arrive to save us. they've only been there about 5 mins before daz takes to the decks. the dramatic change in musical climate leads to a swift departure from the dancefloor of the "movers", and the room steadily begins to fill with more folk. only a couple of ppl at the mo on the dancefloor, bear in mind the place is mostly filled with students. (a brief chat with daz later clears this up, apparently the night has been advertised as an "indie" night, and they were a little unsure as to how well they would go down. they needn't have worried). daz rocks it for about half-hour, then andy gets on. meanwhile, two things are happening: 1) more and more folk are dancing, and 2) i'm slowly losing the use of my legs. i find the use again quite quickly when afrika bambataa "just get up and dance" comes on. and then it begins. track after track of absolute classics. it's like the best desert island compilation tape in the world...ever, except better. orbital "funny break", underworld "cowgirl" AND "rez", moby "go", stakker "humanoid", fsol "papua new guinea". and what was the one with the speeded-up stone roses/atom bassline? who cares? it was without doubt one of the best nights clubbing i've had for ages, and i'm not just saying that ;-) just recently i've become sick to death of dance music and my record collection, i've not heard anything new or fresh for ages, i've took to listening to all sorts of stuff, rap, rock, anything except dance music. saturday night made me realise that it's not the music that's not fresh, i just needed to hear it with fresh ears. i would like to thank daz & andy for restoring my faith in the music closest to me, and they didn't even play any of their own stuff!

sorry this report is not conventional in the conventional sense, it's just one guy's viewpoint, but i hope you get the idea of how good it was. to daz and andy - i'm going to pester my local club in mansfield to have you on, you would go down an absolute storm, and they've just started a new saturday night playing the sort of stuff you did.

E&OE - i can't be arsed to check!
