Taking the lift debate a step further, there are a couple of occasions beside 'Open your mind' where I think a b-side or extra track has been better than the a side release. I much prefer 'Nimbus' to 'Timebomb' and I love the trippy 'La Luz' which I rate better than '10 X 10', 'Chisler' also runs 'Bond' pretty close, depends on the mood I'm in.
I suppose it's just that the quality of 808's material is so good. 'Lift', 'Timebomb' and '10 X 10' are great tracks (well...maybe not Timebomb!) and really its down to individual preference, just sometimes I reckon other tracks would have been better to release. Record company bollocks also I presume would come into play, as would the commercial aspect of things but many of 808's album tracks would have been great single releases. I guess its hard to choose when your music is so diverse and likely to appeal to different audiences.
If everyone liked the same thing the world would be a boring place!!! By the way, the best track on EX:EL is Empire, or maybe its San Francisco, then again In yer face is a fave, ooooh stop making my choice hard you musical genius bastards!!! I tried several times to make a favourite track compilation, but its so bloody hard.
Sorry to rattle on a bit, I am a bit Euphoric after seeing England stuff the Germans. If we can beat Germany 5-1 in Munich, maybe 'Optibuk' and a new album are definately heading our way, with no obstacles stopping them.
808 state are fucking great!!!
