A little anecdote which made me smile... I work for a cinema in Mansfield and today was working on the box office, basically selling tickets, which can be quite boring so I sometimes try and have a little chat with the customers just to pass the time. This afternoon a quite attractive 30-something blonde came to the counter with a little girl, so naturally I thought "OK, lets try and chat this one up" (the woman, not the girl!). I noticed she had a bit of an accent but couldn't quite place it. After talking to her for about 5 mins they'd finally decided on what film to watch and she paid by credit card. I always make a point of looking if it says 'Miss' or 'Mrs' or whatever, unfortunately this one was a 'Mrs' but her surname was (I can't remember the first bit)...dottir. I asked if she was from Iceland, she looked surprised and said "Yes, how did you know that?". I said I noticed her surname was ...dottir and that I knew people from Iceland had similar surnames. After about another 5 mins of conversation (at which point I thought 'married or not, I'm in here') she asked how I knew about the Iceland / dottir connection, so I said "well, I'm a bit of a Bjork fan and her surname is Gudmundsdottir, I just guessed you were from Iceland too". To which she replied "Oh yeah, Bjork, my dad and her dad are good friends!"
Sorry the ending to this isn't quite as exciting as the build up, but its gave me a good pub story for the next week anyway.
